Choosing Crib Sheets Carefully: Vital Things To Remember

When designing your nursery, it’s easiest to first choose the crib set. You’ve planned out the perfect nursery, from the furniture set to the wall color - but hold on a second! You baby is going to spend a lot of time in the crib, so choose the bedding carefully. Here are some things you need to think about:

- Choose cotton flannels or knits (or wovens with a high thread count), but make sure they’re not blends - go for 100% cotton. This is to ensure that the bedding is both soft and breathable.

- Keep in mind that you’re not going to have a lot of time with a new baby in the house, so you will want bedding that’s as easy to care for as possible - in other words, make sure it’s machine washable.

- To ensure the safety of your baby, makes sure that your crib bedding fits the crib mattress tightly. A small investment can solve the problem, though: elastic straps to hold the sheets in place.

- When buying your baby bedding, you should seriously consider whether or not you need a set. The American Academy of pediatrics recommends against unnecessary bedding that is included in most bedding sets (like crib bumpers or quilts). Buying individual pieces can therefore make a lot more sense than buying a set. You might be worried that your bedding won’t match, but look at it as an opportunity to get more creative instead.

- When everything else has been taken care of, then you should consider the decor of the nursery.

Plan for the long term when buying your bedding. If you are using a convertible crib then you can use the same sheets from birth through the end of the toddler years. If you think your family will continue to grow, it’s a very smart decision to buy neutral baby bedding like the Vintage baby bedding, because you won’t need to buy new bedding. If you are sure there will be no more kids, however, then buying high-quality (and expensive!) baby bedding is not so important. Whether you buy expensive bedding or cheap, a set or separates, make sure you buy extras, because you’ll need them!
