There are times that we try to simplify projects for people so much that we make things complicated. Our daughter is getting married this year. She has been engaged for eighteen months and still has not made any arrangements for the wedding. This is driving me crazy. I am a take charge get organized kind of person. I do not care where she has her wedding or what type of dress she wears or anything like that, I just want to make sure that some progress is being made towards getting things done.
My daughter has always been very much like her father. Never concerned about details, and waiting to the very last minute to plan anything. I try really hard not to meddle in her life, but some things need to be done far in advance when getting ready for a wedding. When my daughter first announced her engagement she told us that they were going to be waiting for at least two years due to her fiancé completing his education. I bought her a wedding planner book as a way to help her remember all the details that go with a wedding celebration. When I went to pick out the book I could not believe the different wedding planner books that were available. They have them for every conceivable time period as well as for theme weddings. I looked through several of the wedding planner books and decided on one that I though would most closely represent the kind of wedding I thought my daughter would have. When I gave her the book she made me promise that I would not bug her about the details. She made it very clear that if she needed or wanted my help she would ask me for it.
My husband and I were asked over to her apartment to have dinner with her and her fiancé. I told my husband on the way to the apartment that I was going to see if I could not get her to share some of the details about the wedding, or at least talking about what has been done and what needs to happen. They have set a firm date, but I do not know if that is based on personal reasons for the date or if it is the date they can get a reception hall and church. When we arrived at the apartment I noticed the wedding planner book was setting out on the coffee table. To my relief it looked like she had been handling it quite a bit. When I mentioned this to her she was very proud to tell me that they had rented a reception hall, called a caterer, reserved the church and was in the process of picking out wedding invitations.
If this was not a big enough surprise I was shocked when she turned on her computer to show me a web page that was all about her wedding party. It even had a video of the wedding ceremony music that would be on offer. The page had survey questions asking guests which menu they preferred & it included a photo album for people to add pictures they had of her and her grooms life together. She showed me how everyone on the guest list will receive electronic wedding invitations that links to her wedding page where they can network with other guests, add comments, writing comments in the guest book & participate in surveys.
The site event included wedding planning tools where she could manage her tasks following a wedding planner book.
She was so excited because she could build her own social networking community around her wedding day and the page would retain her memories online for anyone to visit long after the event. The social networking site she used is a FREE event specific website for publishing web pages that guests can all network around, it’s called Events listed.
She was glowing because she felt so good about accomplishing all these things on her own.

I was glad that I had not interfered.
