Earthquake Safety
Wednesday, June 18th, 2008    Subscribe To Our FeedMother Nature can certainly wreak havoc on our beautiful planet. Although our planet seems to bounce back like it’s just another day at the office, we sometimes cannot. The truth is we have to prepare ourselves for what Mother Nature and all her wrath has in store. Fortunately for us we can do so ahead of time with the help of our weather satellites in space. The key is to always heed a serious warning. Whether it concerns a tornado, hurricane or hail storm, we have to be prepared. But, what about the sneaky stuff? It’s a bit more difficult to spot earthquakes prior to their rage and rumbling. Well, what we can do is learn and practice earthquake safety. This way if the ground begins to tremble, you have a way to avoid danger as best you can. Are you up to code on your earthquake precautions?
Living in the Midwest, I never worry about earthquakes. Out here our concern is tornadoes, hence the basement in every home. When I ponder issues like earthquake safety and richter scale, I immediately think of California. This is the state where most of it happens. Folks even discuss the notion of it sliding off completely into the ocean one day. I guess anything is possible. Now, just to be clear, earthquakes do affect more than just the California residents. I should know; I lived in Oregon for three years. My daughter’s pre-school taught earthquake safety to all the children. I can recall one particular occasion when I was studying in a college student center and the entire building jolted. At first I didn’t realize it, but we experienced an earthquake. You simply never know when this may occur. On the bright side, earthquake safety measure can definitely prepare you for the unknown. The key is to have a spot in each room where you can take cover. After all, you won’t have time to seek out a particular spot in the house. Have one ready in each room to duck and cover. Be sure that your safe spot is clear of windows and objects that may fall.
When it comes to earthquake safety and other natural terrors, people should not them lightly. The fact remains that we are all very small and rather insignificant in the big scheme of things. Mother Nature can be your best friend or your worst enemy. Be certain you and your family practice proper earthquake safety if you live on the west coast.
